My name is Raffaele Mastrorocco. I am a PhD researcher at the European University Institute (EUI) in the Department of Political and Social Sciences. Prior to my PhD, I obtained an MA at the College of Europe (Natolin) and an MA at the University of Bologna (Forlì Campus).

I study the effects of the emergence and election of far-right parties in democratic countries on national threat perceptions and multilateral security organizations.

My PhD thesis studies these dynamics in the context of Italy. Exploring within-case studies from Italian governments between 2014 and 2024, I look at the varied influences of the far-right in the EU (CSDP) and NATO frameworks.

I was also involved as a Research Assistant in a research project on ad-hoc coalitions and crisis responses in global politics, ADHOCISM. I've also contributed to thinking about the future of the EU enlargement in light of the Russian war against Ukraine. I also have a strong interest in the security policy of Central and Eastern European states.

More broadly, I am interested in the International Politics of the Far-Right, European and International Security, Party Competition on Foreign and Security Policy, and Multilateralism.
